Message from the Secretary General

Becoming the newly elected Secretary General of the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB) for the 2024–2025 term is a great honor and privilege for me. Since its inception in 1979, SOSB has been working tirelessly to provide better services to the surgical patients, educate and motivate the public, protect the interests, rights, and privileges of the surgeons, promote professional efficiency, publish research articles in the Society's journal, and hold regular national and international scientific conferences and seminars thereby promoting professional efficiency. I hope to continue the legacy in my tenure as well.

Surgical care has evolved enormously over the past few decades in Bangladesh. We hope to advance it further by implementing newer technologies and building additional training facilities both at home and abroad for our aspiring surgeons. Training is fundamental in our professional field of work. Improvement of training facilities will definitely help our members to keep up with the skills necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving field of surgery. In addition, incorporating new tools and techniques will enhance service delivery as well as improve patient outcomes. Developing competent surgeons and offering quality surgical services will reduce the dependency of our people on international surgical tourism.

We also want to promote cooperation with other national and international surgical societies. By working together, we can share knowledge, best practices, and resources that will benefit our members and patients. Yet another top priority for us is the establishment of new posts for surgeons in government hospitals and the regularization of their subsequent promotions. This will not only alleviate the current burden on the capital but also ensure that more patients receive timely and quality surgical care in the peripheral health centers of the country.
